The Discipline of Peace

The peace of discipline

I never truly understood language and the power of words until I started throwing around the word "discipline."

I stood in front of a group of small dancers and asked, "what do you think I mean when I say 'I teach the discipline of joy?'

The answers were astonishing, and not a little bit sad.

All negative. All furrowed brow. All confusion.

The Discipline of Joy

The discipline of joy is about peace.

You do the things you need to do (and you do them right the first time around) so that you have the time and clarity to live the life you always imagined.

In the short term that can look like restriction, but it's the long term you're aiming at. Learning how to be more disciplined is about understanding your worth and fighting against the self-sabotage that's keeping you stuck.

This week I want to talk about how we transform this idea of discipline, and learn to lean on its ability to invoke peace and not get lost in our need to embody shame.
